Description
EM Acoustics EMS-129 Fullrange Passive Loudspeaker
The EMS-129 is an update to the ever-popular EMS-122w fullrange loudspeaker, a compact, powerful fullrange loudspeaker intended for a wide variety of applications – both mobile and permanently installed.
- True passive design – no corrective DSP required
- Wide and narrow dispersion variants in identical enclosure footprints
- 35mm polemount
- Rotatable 90° x 60° waveguide
- Flexible rigging and mounting options
- Compatible with OmniMount™ and Powerdrive brackets
- Impact and weather resistant black or white textured finish as standard
- RAL colour and enhanced weather protection options
Whilst the internal components have been updated, the EMS-129 is physically identical to the original EMS-122w and is fully compatible with the same flying hardware. S-15, S-215 or S-18 subwoofers can be added to extend system response where required. The EMS-129 is completely passive yet outperforms many bi-amplified or processed designs.
Updated with new components and cabinet structure, the enclosure contains a 12” (305mm) neodymium LF drive unit, linked via the internal passive crossover network to a 3” (76mm) diaphragm, 1.4” (36mm) exit HF compression drive unit. The HF drive unit is coupled to a constant-directivity waveguide which produces a 90° x 60° dispersion pattern, rotatable for maximum flexibility, and along with the multi-angle enclosure this allows stage monitor use if required.
The robust enclosure is constructed from premium multi-laminate Birch plywood and is finished in an impact and weather resistant black or white textured polyurethane as standard, however RAL colour matching and enhanced weather-protected outdoor options are available. Two NL4 connections are provided on the rear for input and enclosure link. The front of the loudspeaker is protected by a rigid stainless steel grille backed with acoustically transparent fabric. A flush bar handle, 35mm polemount socket and various threaded fixings are provided in the enclosure for optional rigging hardware.
The EMS-129 requires a single amplifier channel, and the use of external DSP is recommended for system protection with high pass filters and limiters – as such it is recommended to be used with EM Acoustics’ range of Advanced System Amplifiers. It is however possible to use other DSP-enabled amplifiers, or conventional amplifiers with external DSP. Suitable DSP settings are provided on the EM Acoustics website. The EMS-129 requires a single amplifier channel capable of delivering 750-1000W RMS into an 8-ohm load.
